I really wanted to do something nice for the essential workers and all of the people in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. When news came to me that the Gastown Business Improvement Association and the City of Vancouver were assembling a team of local artists to brighten the streets, I jumped at the opportunity to paint a temporary hoarding wall protecting a storefront.
Little Miss Sunshine was chosen because I really wanted to give people a reason to smile again. People are scared, worried and confused. Plus, we are banned from being closer than 2-metres apart. Because of these restriction, I painted her at a friendly and somewhat relatable scale – giving people a buddy during this time of uncertainty.
This is not a portfolio piece and will be only up protecting a storefront business simultaneously sending out hope and smiles while the city is in lockdown. I hope she brings digitally joy to the City of Vancouver.
