Much like the author, Gina Frisby, experienced in her own childhood, Eugene the bear grapples with profound shyness. Frisby, having triumphed over this challenge herself, now imparts her wisdom to children through her lovable character, Eugene.

This bear yearns for friendship, yet each time another animal draws near, he stumbles with his words, experiences a lump in his throat, nervously surveys his surroundings, and simply years to vanish! Gulp...can you relate?

One after another, animals try to befriend Eugene, and the outcome remains unchanging. Fortunately for Eugene, his soon-to-be buddies are patient, kind and instinctively know how to make him feel at ease.
