Life as a Professional Illustrator 🎨

Over the past five years, I’ve illustrated around 40 books, collaborating with independent authors to bring their stories to life. It’s been rewarding to contribute to projects that inspire young readers and nurture their creativity.

Earlier this year, I hit a point of burnout. A yoga session and a day at the spa weren’t going to fix it. I realized I was missing a sense of connection—both with my profession and my community. After working solo for so long, especially post-Covid, I knew something had to change.

I recently joined the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), and it’s been a positive shift. I’ve met local authors who gather monthly to critique each other’s work. Collaborating in person again has been refreshing. SCBWI also offers monthly illustration prompts for social media, which adds a nice layer of creative connection.

For September’s prompt—Backpack—I colored one of my free monthly coloring pages. I’m looking forward to more of these challenges and staying open to new opportunities for growth and connection. 🌟
