I had the pleasure of illustrating The Adventures of Rikki the Dolphin… not an Ordinary Toy by Michelle-Lee Young and Ashley Young.

The story follows Bailey, a young girl living in Nova Scotia, with a love for the ocean, sea creatures, and the stories she creates at the seashore.

Most of all, Bailey adores dolphins.

Her fascination grows as she listens to her grandmother’s stories about the Atlantic white-sided dolphins that once visited the Maritimes.

When Bailey’s parents return from a trip to Hawaii, they bring back a special gift: a stuffed dolphin named Rikki.

With a unique tag on her right fin, Rikki is no ordinary toy.

Together, Bailey and Rikki have many adventures around the Northumberland Strait.

But as winter approaches, Bailey can no longer visit the ocean. How will she and Rikki continue their adventures? Will imagination and their bond be enough to see Bailey through the colder months?
